President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has announced initiatives to foster the growth of digital technologies and support young talent in the field in Uzbekistan, presidential press service informed on May 13.
The sector's growth has been particularly pronounced in recent months, with a 120% increase in service volume and $200 mn worth of exports recorded in the last four months of the year. Additionally, 5,000 new jobs have been created, signaling the sector's potential as a driver of employment and economic growth.
Despite these advancements, the bulk of IT services and exports are concentrated in Tashkent city, where 80% of professionals reside. To promote equitable development across regions, plans are underway to establish IT-towns in remote areas. Initially, 15 regions and districts, along with the city of Khanabad, will host these hubs, offering free training in IT, foreign languages, and other modern professions to approximately 10,000 young people.
"In the era of rapid changes, all fields need personnel who know information technologies. The main resource for both services and exports in this area is qualified professionals. IT-towns should be a system that will serve as a wing for young people and teach them modern professions," - said Shavkat Mirziyoev.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of ensuring that these IT-towns serve as conducive learning environments, with highly qualified instructors imparting valuable skills to aspiring professionals. In line with international best practices, support for start-ups will be enhanced through transparent selection processes and the allocation of grants based on merit and results.
Moreover, Uzbekistan is making strides in the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) programs, with initiatives such as the "My ID" biometric identification system. Today, 28 banks and 5 state organizations are connected to this system. More than 8,200,000 users have registered through it. And the "Mukhlisa" Uzbek voice assistant. These innovations hold the potential to streamline processes and enhance user experiences across various sectors.
To further bolster the digital landscape, efforts are underway to improve legal frameworks related to AI and space activities. Additionally, the introduction of the Unified Communal Services Platform will streamline utility payments and information dissemination, providing convenience and efficiency to consumers.
