Serbia has allocated €1 mn for the construction of houses in flood-affected regions of Kazakhstan, as reported by the Central Communications Service under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The contribution, facilitated through the public fund "Kazakhstan Khalkyna," underscores the deepening level of solidarity between the two nations and reflects growing confidence among foreign donors in Kazakhstan's relief efforts, particularly regarding the transparency in aid distribution. Bolat Zhamishev, Chairman of the Board of the Kazakhstan Khalkyna Foundation, emphasized the significance of Serbia's contribution in aiding the affected regions.
As of May 10, 2024, the total amount of funds collected for flood relief efforts stands at 5.3 bn tenge ($12 mn), complementing the 10 billion tenge ($22.7 mn) previously allocated by the Fund for the restoration of housing destroyed by natural disasters. The combined effort aims to expedite the reconstruction process and provide essential support to communities grappling with the aftermath of floods.
The allocation of funds coincides with a recent telephone conversation between the presidents of Kazakhstan and Serbia, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Aleksandar Vučić, respectively. During the discussion, both leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, fulfilling existing obligations, and preparing for the forthcoming visit of President Tokayev to Belgrade.
This recent display of solidarity echoes Kazakhstan's humanitarian assistance to Serbia in 2014, following a devastating flood. At that time, Kazakhstan provided crucial support, including tents, medicine, and other essential supplies, demonstrating the enduring bond between the two nations in times of crisis.
