The International Institute of Central Asia (IICA) convened a meeting where the Director, Javlon Vakhabov, engaged in talks with Michael Curtis, the Executive Vice President for Strategic Development of the American Councils for International Education.
The American Councils, a non-governmental non-profit organization renowned for its focus on educational programs, particularly teacher development and English language training, discussed avenues for collaboration aimed at advancing academic exchanges and enhancing educational standards.
The dialogue commenced with a review of educational initiatives spearheaded by the American Councils within Uzbekistan. Curtis underscored the recent culmination of the four-year English-Speaking Nation Program, which saw over 18,000 teachers equipped with advanced pedagogical techniques for English language instruction.
Notably, 452 educators earned coveted Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certifications, while 693 assumed roles as instructors and mentors, constituting a robust support network poised to elevate educational practices nationwide.
Curtis attributed this milestone to Uzbekistan's commitment to human capital development, particularly its emphasis on aligning educational quality with global benchmarks.
Central to the discussions was the exploration of potential collaborations between IICA and the American Councils in bolstering the proficiency of academic personnel. Specifically, deliberations encompassed the feasibility of designing specialized courses on scientific article composition, journal selection, and pursuit of research grants. Moreover, both parties explored avenues for IICA experts to participate in English language proficiency programs, further augmenting their capabilities.
