Turkmenistan has pardoned 356 prisoners on the occasion of the Holy Night of Omnipotence (Gadyr Gidjesi) for Muslims. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a decree, local television Altyn Asyr reports.
The Muslim world is now in the holy month of Ramadan. The holiday of Oraza-Bayram, which marks the end of fasting, will be celebrated at dawn on 10 April.
The document was signed "to further strengthen the unity and cohesion of Turkmen society" at an extended government meeting.
Local administrations have been instructed to find jobs for those released.
Previous actions in Turkmenistan were timed to coincide with Neutrality Day (12 December) and Independence Day (27 September), during which some 1,500 prisoners were pardoned.
