A meeting was held in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) with the representatives of the international project rally "Silk Road", the development director Sergey Tukmanov and the first deputy head of the project Viktor Sokolov.
"Important aspects of the organisation of an international rally-raid competition on the territory of Turkmenistan were discussed," the Turkmenawtoulaglary (Turkmenavtotransport) agency said in a press release. The competition is scheduled to take place from 9 to 15 September 2024.
Issues such as route development, ensuring the safety of participants, medical care and communication during the race were discussed at the meeting. The Silk Road Rally Marathon is an international sporting event of the highest category of complexity in the motorsport discipline of rally-raid.
Last year the 2530 km long rally stages passed through three time zones (from Kazan to Moscow), across the territory of 13 Russian regions. All vehicles (motorbikes, quads, all-terrain vehicles, off-road vehicles and trucks) were allowed to participate.
The Silk Road was first initiated by Turkmenistan in 2009. The eight-day route covered the vast expanses of central Russia and the southern Urals, the steppes of Kazakhstan and the Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan. The race was organised by the KAMAZ Team (Russia) and funded by the Turkmengaz State Concern.
