Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met in Ashgabat with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Kaha Imnadze.
"The Turkmen side emphasized its interest in strengthening the role of the Regional Center in the field of multilateral diplomacy and actively promoting initiatives to combat terrorism," the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
The parties considered the possibility of the Regional Center, together with the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, holding a number of regional trainings, seminars on countering terrorism, as well as exchanging experience in this area.
"Particular attention is paid to the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy at the regional level, based on the provisions of the Ashgabat Declaration of 2011 and the Joint Plan of Action to Counter Terrorism in Central Asia, which was adopted in 2022."
The most dangerous country in the region is Afghanistan (ranked sixth in the world), which borders three Central Asian countries - Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan - according to a report by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IPE, Australia).
