President Shavkat Mirziyoev of Uzbekistan convened a crucial meeting to deliberate on the economic and social advancement of the Namangan region, his press service reports. The session, held on March 26, focused on evaluating existing achievements, identifying untapped potential, and charting a comprehensive roadmap for the region's progress.
Economic Advancements and Challenges
Over the past seven years, the region's economy has doubled, witnessing a threefold increase in exports and a rise in per capita income to UZS 15.5mn ($1,227). Notably, 600,000 job opportunities were generated through substantial investments totaling UZS 65 trillion ($5.1mn). However, despite these advancements, several opportunities remain underutilized, with specific sectors facing challenges.
A critical aspect discussed during the meeting was the need to address sectoral imbalances and maximize the region's diverse potential. Notably, 86% of the region's exports are dominated by textiles and fruit and vegetable production, indicating a need for diversification and industrial development in other areas. Additionally, efforts are required to enhance agricultural productivity, particularly in areas with underutilized farmland.
Empowering Communities for Socioeconomic Development
President Mirziyoev underscored the importance of community empowerment and grassroots initiatives in driving socioeconomic progress. Drawing inspiration from successful models like the Saykhunabad experience, a comprehensive movement has been initiated in Namangan to uplift low-income households.
Through targeted interventions and support mechanisms, efforts aim to elevate household incomes and stimulate entrepreneurship in various sectors such as floriculture, beekeeping, and animal husbandry.
Stimulating Industrial Growth and Infrastructure Development
Recognizing the untapped industrial potential of the region, President Mirziyoev emphasized the need for revitalizing industrial zones and promoting value-added processing industries. Initiatives such as establishing jewelry zones with favorable conditions for entrepreneurs and enhancing road infrastructure to boost tourism were discussed. Furthermore, plans were outlined for the development of hydroelectric and solar power stations to meet energy demands sustainably.
In addition to economic measures, President Mirziyoev highlighted the importance of improving healthcare and education services in the region. Plans were unveiled to establish specialized medical centers and bolster educational institutions to provide quality services and enhance employment opportunities, particularly for youth and women.
