Uzbekistan’s Tashkent Railcar Plant will start producing electric and metro trains this year, as reported by “NPO A.T.O.R.”, a leading company in the comprehensive supply of passenger carriages, electric trains, and socially oriented transport.
The first product will be suburban electric trains, capable of 120 km/h and accommodating 306 passengers.The production will later include regional electric trains with speeds up to 160 km/h and capacity for 360 people. New high-capacity metro trains with modern technologies are also planned.
The project is expected to reduce costs compared to imports, increase jobs at the Tashkent Railcar Plant, and raise tax revenues. The increase in production localization to 40-45% indicates a commitment to self-sufficiency and national industry development.
The initiative will foster technological and manufacturing competencies, potentially leading to economic diversification and industrial base strengthening. The launch of domestic production signifies a new phase for railway transport in Uzbekistan.
