Small businesses continue to play a crucial role in Uzbekistan's economic landscape, as evidenced by their substantial contributions to the country's tax revenue. Data from March 13 reveals that in the period spanning from January to December 2023, a total of 64,272 small enterprises collectively paid over UZS 10.9 trillion ($867.5mn) in taxes. This significant financial injection underscores the resilience and importance of small businesses in driving economic growth.
Despite facing various challenges, small enterprises demonstrated robust trade activities, with their combined trade turnover amounting to a staggering UZS 152.7 trillion ($12.1bn). Additionally, these businesses availed tax benefits totaling UZS 4.1 trillion ($326.3mn), further highlighting their efforts to navigate the business landscape effectively.
Breakdown of Tax Revenues
The top 20 small enterprises, which contributed UZS 83.9bn ($6.7mn) in taxes, saw their tax revenues distributed across various categories:
- Excise Tax: UZS 52.5bn ($4.2mn)
- Value-Added Tax: UZS 15.4bn ($1.2mn)
- Income Tax: UZS 7bn ($557,103)
- Personal Income Tax: UZS 3bn ($238,758)
- Social Tax: UZS 2.2bn ($175089)
- Other Taxes: UZS 3.8bn ($302,427)
