Over a thousand sheep and cattle perished in the Faryab region of Afghanistan as a result of severe snowfall and cold weather conditions, Avapress reports.
The losses primarily occurred in districts such as Qaisar, Karmkul, Pashtun Kot, and Khoja Sabzposh. Authorities convened a meeting to address the situation and discuss measures to assist those affected by the adverse weather.
Widespread Impact in Bodghis Province
Furthermore, reports indicate that hundreds of cattle have also succumbed to heavy snowfall and cold in the Bodghis province of Afghanistan, exacerbating the already dire situation.
In a separate incident, approximately 200 horses have died from starvation in the Akmola region of Kazakhstan. The animals faced challenges sourcing food due to burnt pastures caused by summer heat, compounded by an anomalous winter that further restricted access to grass under the snow.
Calls for State of Emergency in Kazakhstan
The dire circumstances have prompted calls from farmers to declare a state of emergency in the affected regions of Kazakhstan. The inability of animals to access adequate food sources has led to widespread fatalities, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
