Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Murat Nurtleu, expressed the country’s intention to ease transit for Uzbek carriers. Nurtleu assured that efforts to simplify transit across the border will continue, emphasizing that such measures align with the fundamental interests of both nations.
The Uzbek and Kazakh representatives deliberated on the organization of interregional cooperation forums. These discussions underscore the commitment of both nations to foster regional collaboration.
Nurtleu highlighted the exchange of views on a pressing issue for Central Asian residents - the water and energy complex. He drew attention to potential solutions, indicating a shared concern for regional challenges.
Transit statistics in 2023
According to the Statistical Agency, 11.2 mn cargoes were transported through Uzbekistan in transit in 2023, marking a 23% increase from 2022. Of all cargoes, 81.3% or 9.1 mn tonnes were transported by rail, while road transport accounted for 2.1 mn tonnes.
In 2023, Uzbekistan operated 201 freight wagons by high-speed container trains on regional routes, which is 101 more than the previous year. In total, these trains transported over 177,000 tonnes of various cargo in 7,500 containers.
Temiryulkargo, a prominent player in the region’s transport sector, plans to augment the number of cargo shipments from Tashkent to Jizzakh, Samarkand, and Bukhara, further enhancing the region’s transport capabilities.
