Hajimyrat Khudaygulyev, Head of the Turkmenaragatnashyk (Turkmen Telecommunication) Agency, met with Jacques Garrigue, Airbus (France) Vice President for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, reports the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
"The development of the space industry plays an important role and Turkmenistan, having become a reliable partner of major companies, is ready to actively introduce advanced technologies and promote space research in the region and the world".
The parties discussed the prospects for cooperation.
"One of Airbus' key proposals was to provide Turkmenistan with remote monitoring and photography services from space. This reflects the high appreciation of Turkmenistan's potential to successfully introduce advanced technologies in the space industry".
Turkmenistan began working with Airbus last year. The company delivered two A330-200 P2F freighters to Turkmenistan Airlines, the country's sole national carrier.
It has previously been reported that Turkmenistan plans to launch a second space communications satellite to improve the quality of telecommunications services.
Experts told Daryo that the Franco-Italian company Thales Alenia Space is offering its services to build the satellite. The company built the first national satellite, TürkmenÄlem 52oE, which was launched in 2015 from Cape Canaveral, Florida, US.
The spacecraft is also expected to provide environmental monitoring of oil fields, pipeline corridors and oil refineries. Satellite imagery will also increase the efficiency of monitoring the progress of the construction of transport infrastructure and the environmental condition not only of the land but also of the Caspian shelf.
