Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan, Marat Karabayev, engaged with Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium, Georges Gilkinet on January 29 in Brussels, to discuss the promising prospects of cooperation in the transport sector between the two nations, the Ministry of Transport reported.
The discussions centered around expanding transport corridors linking Europe and Kazakhstan, fostering a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership in transportation. Minister Karabayev proposed establishing connections between cargo carriers of Kazakhstan and Belgium, inviting European companies to contribute to the creation of an international port and logistics cluster based on the ports of Aktau and Kuryk. He also encouraged the active involvement of international companies in unlocking the potential of the Middle Corridor.
To enhance development, Minister Karabayev suggested signing agreements with the EU, focusing on return loading from West to East, subsidizing transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), and developing infrastructure and a terminal network along the route.
Deputy Prime Minister Gilkinet accepted the invitation to participate in the "NEW SILK WAY" forum and put forth mutually beneficial proposals in civil aviation, commercial transport, and road transport.
Expressing gratitude for the fruitful discussion, both parties underscored the significance of further developing relations between Kazakhstan and Belgium.
Furthermore, Minister Karabayev, as part of the Global Gateway Investors Forum, signed a memorandum of understanding with the European Investment Bank (EIB). The memorandum outlines financial resources to promote and develop Kazakhstan's transport sector in the context of sustainable transport links between Europe and Central Asia. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding was inked between the Economic Development Bank of Kazakhstan and the EIB, aiming to attract investments for the country's transport potential.
A transportation initiative in Eurasia involved building the Western Europe – Western China road route in compliance with international financial organization regulations. Under this initiative, 3,000 kilometers of roads were constructed throughout Kazakhstan. The majority of these roads have now become integral components of the Trans-Caspian transport route.
