In anticipation of Kazakhstan's participation in the investment forum "Global Gateway" in Belgium, Vice Minister Talgat Lastaev recently engaged in discussions with Nicholas Jacob Schermers, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan reported. The meeting highlighted the burgeoning possibilities for joint ventures in the transport and logistics sector between the two nations.
The talks specifically delved into the potential involvement of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, a key focus of Kazakhstan's transport initiatives. Vice Minister Lastaev proposed exploring avenues for collaboration and suggested that a presentation on the transport corridor's capabilities and prospects could be scheduled during the upcoming visit of Minister Marat Karabayev to the Netherlands.
Parties on both sides expressed keen interest in mutual learning opportunities, with a particular emphasis on studying the operational model of the Port of Rotterdam, Europe's largest deep-water port. Additionally, discussions centered around organizing meetings between the Kazakh delegation and Dutch leadership, encouraging the active participation of businessmen from both countries.
Following the negotiations, a shared commitment to deepening cooperation in the transport and logistics sphere was underscored, signifying the intent to foster stronger ties between Kazakhstan and the Netherlands.
Kazakhstan and Netherlands Relations
September 2022 marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Over the past three decades, the two nations have forged a robust partnership based on trust and mutual respect, spanning diverse sectors.
Active political engagement, dynamic trade and economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, and collaboration on global issues, including security and sustainable development, exemplify the high level of relations between Kazakhstan and the Netherlands. The commitment to constructive multilateral dialogue within international structures such as the UN, OSCE, WTO, and others further demonstrates the depth of the Kazakh-Dutch relationship.
Key areas of cooperation include agriculture and water management, education, healthcare, biochemistry, information technology, transport and logistics, and renewable energy sources. This broad spectrum of collaboration underscores the multifaceted nature of the partnership between the two nations.
Cultural ties have also flourished, evident in the inauguration of a square named after the Kazakh capital in Rotterdam in 2015. Furthermore, the Dutch translation of "The Book of Words" by Abai Kunanbayev, released in honor of the poet's 175th anniversary, stands as a testament to the cultural exchange between Kazakhstan and the Netherlands.
