MUNIS project by the World Bank is providing grants to support startups and the research and development activities of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). On January 24, seminar was held, hosted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovations of Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan has initiated the Modernizing Uzbekistan’s National Innovation System (MUNIS) Project. This transformative endeavor is made possible through a Financing Agreement (FA) signed between the Government of Uzbekistan and the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank (WB) on May 17, 2021, World Bank reported.
The MUNIS Project is structured around four key components, strategically designed to cultivate a market-oriented National Innovation System (NIS) in the country. These components encompass policy instruments aimed at enhancing the scientific performance and economic relevance of applied research and development (R&D), stimulating innovation at the enterprise level, fostering the creation of new products, technologies, and processes, and establishing vital institutions such as the International Expert Board (IEB) and a Technology Transfer Unit (TTU). To further fortify its impact, the project will allocate funds for technical assistance and capacity-building initiatives.
Under the adept execution of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) housed within the Ministry of Higher, Science, and Innovations (MHESI), the MUNIS Project will unfold. The PIU is entrusted with the comprehensive management and implementation of the project, bringing together a team of seasoned professionals with diverse expertise in innovation policy, technology transfer, and project management.
One of the cornerstone components of the project involves the establishment of the International Expert Board (IEB). This collaborative platform is designed to provide valuable insights, guidance, and expertise to propel Uzbekistan's innovation landscape forward. The creation of the Technology Transfer Unit (TTU) is another significant stride, aimed at facilitating the seamless transfer of knowledge and technology from research institutions to industries, ultimately driving economic growth.
