In a step toward sustainable energy solutions, Eurasian National University (ENU) has entered into a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Italian company "Green Spark Italy Srl" and the ALE “Union of Green Hydrogen of Kazakhstan," ENU reported. The collaboration aims to advance technology for the production of a novel type of fuel, with the primary objective of curbing harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
The joint venture, "Natural Gas + H2," focuses on creating a production process for "green" hydrogen and optimizing its blending with natural gas. This innovative technology is essential in the global effort to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and enhance environmental sustainability. ENU scientists, drawing on insights from a pilot industrial site, plan to propose the adoption of this groundbreaking technology at thermal power plants in Almaty and Aktau.
Duman Aitmagambetov, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development of L. Gumilev ENU, emphasized the university's substantial scientific potential and skilled workforce. He highlighted their commitment to supporting researchers focused on cutting-edge, environmentally friendly technologies to reduce air pollution from industrial activities.
“Our priority is to support the scientific endeavors of our researchers, particularly those working on cutting-edge, environmentally friendly technologies aimed at reducing air pollution from industrial activities,” Aitmagambetov shared.
Aitmagambetov expressed optimism about the collaboration outlined in the memorandum, stating it will enable the implementation of pilot projects for environmentally friendly hydrogen production. The ultimate goal is to establish a new technological paradigm for fuel production, leading to a significant improvement in the environment and a reduction in harmful emissions.
ENU scientists have been at the forefront of hydrogen energy research for over 15 years, operating the research institute "Eurasian Institute of Physics and Energy Research and High Technologies," where research is conducted.
It's noteworthy that, in the last year, ENU and Almaty Power Plants signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and Interaction in the field of environmental protection and the utilization of a gas-hydrogen fuel mixture.
Earlier, Daryo reported that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan expressed gratitude for the warm reception on Italian soil during talks with Giorgia Meloni, Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Italy. A Joint Statement was issued after the meeting, and several significant documents were signed, demonstrating a commitment to expanding collaboration. These included agreements on the status of burial sites for Second World War military personnel, cooperation between justice ministries, cultural exchange, educational partnerships, and agreements on investment funds and joint projects in manufacturing, energy, and logistics.
