Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Muzaffar Madrahimov, hosted a crucial meeting with Ambassador Marc Michielsen, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Representative of the Kingdom of Belgium (residing in Moscow) on January 25, MFA reported. The event not only marked the conclusion of Ambassador Michielsen's diplomatic mission but also served as a platform to reflect on the robust diplomatic relationship between Uzbekistan and Belgium.
The discussions encompassed the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations, emphasizing collaborative efforts through multilateral structures. Deputy Minister Madrahimov acknowledged the Ambassador's commendable efforts, expressing gratitude for his invaluable contribution to enhancing the mutually beneficial ties between Uzbekistan and Belgium.
In turn, Ambassador Michielsen extended his appreciation for the consistent support he received during his tenure as the Ambassador of Belgium.
Uzbekistan-Belgium Relations
Belgium officially recognized the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan on December 31, 1991, leading to the establishment of diplomatic relations on March 10, 1992. The Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Brussels has been in operation since 1995. Notably, interparliamentary cooperation groups have been active in the parliaments of both countries since 2006.
Uzbekistan hosts six businesses with Belgian investment involvement, including enterprises such as "Picanol," "Van de Wiele" (specializing in the delivery and installation of weaving and carpet weaving machines), "Maxx Intermodal Systems N.V" (providing services in the transport and trade sector), "Aatco Carpets" (engaged in the manufacturing and spinning of wool and textile fibers), "Gosselin Moving" (specializing in international and cargo transportation, as well as logistics), and "Intraco" (focused on the manufacturing and marketing of animal feed concentrates, premixes, protein meals, and additives).
