The delegation from the Ministry of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, led by Minister Sherzod Shermatov, is deepening ties with Chinese partners during its ongoing visit to the People's Republic of China, the government portal of Uzbekistan reported. A meeting took place on January 23, where discussions centered on prospects for the development of Information Technology (IT) education and fostering greater collaboration in this crucial sector.
The delegation engaged with the leadership of the Chongqing Municipality government and the heads of eight higher education institutions in the Chongqing province. Notably, in 2023, the trade and economic relations between Chongqing province and Uzbekistan reached a significant milestone, amounting to CNY 1bn ($140mn).
Chongqing province expressed its eagerness to fortify this collaboration by amplifying efforts in the field of IT. Proposals from representatives of eight universities were a focal point of the discussions, demonstrating a shared commitment to advancing IT education.
The head of Chongqing Polytechnic University proposed a multifaceted collaboration in science and technology. The suggestion included establishing a joint Uzbek-Chinese educational center in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Uzbekistan. Additionally, joint programs for the professional development of educators and student exchange were put forward.
Leadership from the Chongqing Engineering Vocational Institute suggested a teacher and student exchange program through collaboration with Uzbekistani higher education institutions specializing in ICT.
The head of the Vocational College of Electronic Engineering expressed a desire to establish a vocational center, focusing on the Chinese language and technical specialties, in cooperation with Kazakhstan on Uzbek soil.
Chongqing Professional Engineering Technical College leaders proposed collaboration with Uzbekistan in artificial intelligence and big data technologies. Plans included attracting Uzbek students to study at the technical school, establishing a special center for improving the qualifications of educators, and launching a joint education program based on "3+1" or "2+2" with partner Uzbek higher education institutions.
A representative of the Union of Science and Technology sought practical assistance in organizing a joint scientific-practical conference at the international level. Additionally, negotiations with representatives of the private sector in the field of IT during the upcoming visit to Uzbekistan were requested.
Minister Sherzod Shermatov, having reviewed the proposals, presented the reforms implemented in Uzbekistan's IT sector. He emphasized the favorable conditions for foreign business representatives, including tax incentives and various projects geared towards IT education development.
