The Russian Swimming Federation (RSF) has announced its intention to conduct a thorough review of Ilya Sibirtsev's transfer to the Uzbekistan national team, ensuring compliance with the governing regulations. Vladimir Salnikov, the head of the organization, communicated this information to TASS, shedding light on the recent approval by the International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics) regarding Sibirtsev's change of sporting citizenship from Russian to Uzbek.
Evaluating transfer procedure
Salnikov expressed his perspective on the matter, stating that since Sibirtsev has been residing abroad for an extended period, he does not view the transition as a cause for alarm. However, he emphasized the need to scrutinize the transfer procedure for adherence to established protocols. While Salnikov acknowledged that the incident is not of utmost concern, he underscored the federation's intention to seek clarification from specialists within the international federation, seeking answers to pertinent questions.
Assessing impact on Russian swimming
Regarding Sibirtsev's transition, the head of the federation assured that Russian swimming has not incurred any significant losses. When queried about the matter, he responded with certainty, stating, "Absolutely." It should be noted that Sibirtsev had initially planned to compete for Uzbekistan during the Asian Games in China last autumn. However, World Aquatics did not approve his transfer at that time.
