On January 18, Uzbekistan and Uganda signed a Joint Communiqué establishing diplomatic relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reported. This event marks Uganda as the 145th country to establish diplomatic ties with Uzbekistan.

The signing ceremony took place in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. The document was signed by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Bakhromjon Aloyev, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, Jeje Odongo.
Mutual readiness for cooperation
During the conversation, both parties expressed a mutual readiness to establish close cooperation in various spheres, including political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian. This commitment reflects the foreign policy objectives of both nations, which emphasize regional and international peace and security, regional integration, and international cooperation.
Appreciation for Uzbekistan’s foreign policy
The Foreign Minister of Uganda, Jeje Odongo, emphasized that official Kampala highly appreciates the foreign policy of Uzbekistan. The main direction of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy is the development and strengthening of friendly, good-neighbourly, and mutually beneficial relations with the states of Central Asia. This policy also includes the initiatives put forward by the President of Uzbekistan at the international level.
