Afghanistan's trade turnover with Turkmenistan in 2023 totalled $481mn, reports ToloNews, citing data from the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
A meeting with Turkmenistan's Ambassador Hoja Ovezov was held in Kabul. The sides discussed expanding Afghan marble exports to Turkmenistan and holding an exhibition of Afghan products in Ashgabat.
According to the ministry, electricity, oil and gas are among the key exports of Turkmenistan to Afghanistan while Afghanistan mostly export marble, dried fruits, potatoes and non-alcoholic beverages to Turkmenistan.
Turgundi and Aqina are the main ports for trade.
"Turkmenistan is a country which borders the Caspian sea on the one hand and maintains good relations with central Asian countries like Kazakhstan. Good relations with this country can help increase transit which will benefit Afghanistan," Khan Jan Alokozai, a board member of the chamber of commerce and investment, told.
There are two checkpoints along the more than 800km border: Aqina in Farab and Turgundi in Herat.
