To elevate the standards of scientific research in the realms of public safety and crime prevention, a presidential decree has been issued, as reported by the "Legal Information" Telegram channel.
The decree formalizes the establishment of the Research Institute of Criminology in Uzbekistan. This institute, designated as a republic scientific-research institution, is dedicated to providing scientific and expert support for criminological activities. It operates as an integral part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and holds the status of a legal entity.
The appointment of the institute's head is vested in the Cabinet of Ministers. The Research Institute of Criminology is mandated to:
- Conduct in-depth research on the criminogenic situation in the republic, systematically analyzing and forecasting crime trends.
- Methodically assist inquiry and preliminary investigation bodies in identifying factors contributing to high-profile crimes and developing measures to address them.
- Play a pivotal role in cultivating highly qualified scientific personnel through independent research initiatives in the field of criminology.
Importantly, the Institute functions independently of any state bodies, public associations, or officials, with a strict prohibition against external influences that may seek to alter information in research reports.
This development follows a prior announcement regarding the establishment of the Institute of Macroeconomic and Territorial Studies in Uzbekistan, along with the introduction of an inspection agency in the country's courts. Together, these measures underscore a concerted effort to enhance various aspects of research, analysis, and oversight within key sectors of Uzbekistan's administrative and judicial framework.
