The Tashkent City Criminal Court has announced a one-month suspension in the trial of the “Dok-1 Max” syrup case, a drug that has been linked to the tragic deaths of 65 children in Uzbekistan.
The decision to halt the proceedings was made in light of new charges being brought against several additional suspects. As of August this year, the case has implicated 21 individuals, including Sardor Kariyev, the former head of Uzbekistan’s pharmaceutical agency.
The “Dok-1 Max” syrup, produced by Indian pharmaceutical company Marion Biotech, has been at the centre of this case. The drug was found to contain technical propylene glycol, a substance known to be toxic to humans.
Earlier this year, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the consumption of the syrup has resulted in over 300 deaths worldwide. The suspension of the trial marks a significant development in this ongoing investigation.
