Purpose of travel
- Of the 4.8 mn Uzbek citizens who travelled abroad, about 4 mn went to foreign countries to visit relatives. This indicates that familial ties and maintaining connections with relatives living abroad a strong motivators for international travel among Uzbeks.
- In addition, more than 661,000 citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan visited abroad for rest. This suggests a rising trend in leisure travel, with Uzbek citizens increasingly exploring foreign destinations for their vacations.
- Furthermore, over 37,000 Uzbek citizens travelled abroad for treatment. This points to Uzbek citizens' utilization of international healthcare facilities, possibly driven by the search for specialized medical services or treatments not available domestically.
Comparative analysis
The number of foreign tourists visiting Uzbekistan almost tripled from 1.88 mn in 2021 to 5.2 mn in 2022. However, it has not yet returned to 2019’s pre-pandemic level of 6.75 mn. In 2023, Uzbekistan welcomed almost 7 mn tourists, marking a notable increase of 26.9% compared to the previous year.
