Due to non-compliance with entry rules into Kyrgyzstan, 136 citizens of Uzbekistan were denied passage through the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border, 24.kg reports. This information was disclosed at a press conference by Melis Pamirov, representative of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan.
Visa regulations for Uzbek citizens
Pamirov noted that the decision to deny entry did not violate any regulations. Uzbek citizens can stay in Kyrgyzstan for 60 days without hindrance, after which they are required to obtain a visa.
Updated rules for Kazakh citizens
As for citizens of Kazakhstan, the updated rules will come into effect in September 2024. After 60 days, they will need to register with the State Registration Service.
International norms
Azamat Kalysbekov, Third Secretary of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that rules akin to the new regulations on the order of stay of foreign citizens are prevalent in other countries.
Purpose of new regulations
“The primary objective is to prevent the indefinite stay of foreigners in Kyrgyzstan without the appropriate documents. Those citizens who were denied entry at the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border intended to reset the period of departure and entry. This will no longer be possible. They must strictly adhere to the rules, specify the purpose of their visit, and obtain the necessary authorization documents,” said the Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
Registration system remains unchanged
Gulbarchyn Turdubayeva, Chief Specialist of the Migration Division of the Population Registration Department at the Ministry of Digital Development, added that the system for registering foreign citizens has remained unchanged from the previous year.
“When registering, a foreigner must indicate the purpose of stay and present the contract with the employer. Then, when exiting and entering, they will encounter no issues. If they do not have the right to enter the country without a visa, they can apply for an electronic visa, even while in another country,” said the representative of the IDC.
Recap of updated rules
In October 2023, the rules of stay for foreign citizens in Kyrgyzstan were updated. If a foreign citizen without registration stays in the country for 60 days, they must issue a visa or leave the country during this time. It will be possible to return only after 60 days.
For citizens who can visit Kyrgyzstan without a visa for up to 90 days, the terms will be calculated according to the “90/180” principle.
