The Iranian government has given the green light to the elimination of visa requirements for citizens of 33 countries, including Uzbekistan, as reported by the Adventure Iran portal. Other nations benefiting from this decision include Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Belarus, and the Russian Federation.
This progressive initiative was spearheaded by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Crafts, Ezzatollah Zarghami. The Iranian Cabinet is optimistic that this step will serve to fortify ties with the global community.
Both sides are considering the development of overland travel, with potential cooperation with Turkmenistan. Since October 2022, a simplified visa regime has been in place for business and scientific delegations and tourist groups from Uzbekistan and Iran.
This move is part of a broader initiative by Iran to simplify visa regulations for citizens of 60 countries. It underscores Iran’s commitment to fostering international tourism and strengthening its ties with the global community.
In the first ten months of 2023, 632 Uzbeks visited Iran, with the majority (438) visiting for leisure, and 64 visiting relatives. The abolition of the visa regime is expected to increase these numbers, contributing to a vibrant exchange of culture and ideas between the two nations.
