Earlier, Daryo reported that Uzbekistan has declared its departure from the protocol concerning unification and prevention of double taxation within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The decree is available for public viewing on Lex.uz. The protocol, signed by the heads of the CIS countries in Tashkent in May 1992, related to taxes on profits, income, and property. The responsibility of ensuring the execution of this decree lies with the Tax Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan and the United States have shown a shared interest in formulating an agreement to prevent double taxation. This matter was part of the dialogue between representatives of both nations in September 2023. Uzbekistan has already established bilateral agreements with 54 countries to avoid double taxation. The United States views its 1973 U.S.-USSR tax treaty as applicable to Uzbekistan, a stance not shared by the Government of Uzbekistan.
