Historical and Cultural Ties between Tajikistan and Turkey
The diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Turkey were officially established on January 29, 1992, following Tajikistan's declaration of independence on December 16, 1991. The Turkish Embassy in Dushanbe and Tajikistan’s Embassy in Ankara were inaugurated on August 4, 1992, and October 16, 1995, respectively, showcasing the commitment to nurturing diplomatic ties.
Rooted in common historical and cultural bonds, Tajikistan and Turkey have built a relationship that extends beyond geopolitical considerations. The legacy of great thinkers like Mevlana Jalal ad-Din Rumi has enriched their cultural connections, serving as a foundation for the robust diplomatic relations enjoyed today.
The Tajik-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation has played a crucial role in fostering economic ties between the two nations. Established to facilitate economic collaboration, the Commission has held 11 meetings in Dushanbe and Ankara, contributing to the development of economic relations.
One notable example of economic cooperation is the establishment of the joint venture "Akia Avesto Electronics Industry" in Dushanbe. This initiative, directly supported by President Emomali Rahmon, focuses on the packaging and production of buses. The company adheres to international standards and has become a significant contributor to domestic transportation.
