Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has stated that a revolution or violent seizure of power in Serbia is impossible, Report News Agency reports. This statement comes in the wake of the December 30 repeat voting in some polling stations, where the people of the country have clearly expressed their support for the ruling coalition.
During an address from the coalition headquarters located in Belgrade, Vucic emphasized, “There will be no revolutions, no violent seizure of power. The people have made it absolutely clear who they support. This is of key importance.”
Extraordinary parliamentary and municipal elections
Extraordinary parliamentary and municipal elections were held in Serbia on December 17. The coalition “Aleksandar Vucic - Serbia Must Not Stop” emerged victorious. However, representatives of the opposition bloc “Serbia against Violence,” which came in second place, claim that the voting results were falsified.
Opposition rallies and riots
Following the elections, on December 18, the opposition began a series of rallies in front of the Republican Election Commission in Belgrade. On December 24, they attempted to storm the capital’s administration. The riots were suppressed by the police, resulting in the detention of 38 people, 7 of whom pleaded guilty.
President Vucic referred to the attempted seizure of the Belgrade administration as an attack on the sovereignty of the republic.
