Starting from January 1, 2024, Uzbekistan will enforce a new law requiring all motorcycle and moped drivers to possess a category 'A' license. This legislation applies to vehicles modified for highway driving, including mopeds, quad bikes, tricycles, and scooters.
"This change in legislation is aimed at improving road safety and preventing possible incidents related to improper driving of mopeds and motorcycles," the Department of Road Safety noted.
Aim: improved road safety
The Department of Road Safety has noted that this change in legislation is aimed at improving road safety and preventing possible accidents related to improper management of mopeds and motorcycles. This move comes in response to the serious challenges Uzbekistan faces in the realm of road safety, with around 2,356 people killed and 9,606 injured on its roads in 2022, according to WHO figures.
Licensing procedure
The licensing procedure in Uzbekistan is regulated by several legal acts, including the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan No.LRU-701 dated 14.07.2021 “On licensing, permitting and notification procedures”.
