Turkey has confirmed its readiness to expand cooperation with Turkmenistan in the field of strengthening Turkmenistan's defence capabilities, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
The statement was made by Lütfü Haluk Bayraktar, general director of Baýkar Makina Sanaýi ve Tijaret A.Ş, during a meeting with the chairman of Turkmenistan's Halk Maslahaty (People's Council), Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
"The proposals of the Turkish company, which is a world leader in the defence industry, have been considered and relevant agreements have been reached in this direction."
According to the report, the military doctrine of neutral Turkmenistan is strictly defensive in nature.
Turkmenistan was the first Central Asian country to acquire the Bayraktar TB2 drone, manufactured by Baýkar.
Turkmenistan's army is considered the third most powerful of the five Central Asian states (after Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan). This is according to a report by the Global Firepower think-tank.
Caspian Turkmenistan shares land borders with Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
