Ashgabat will host an international forum "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan" on 23-25 October 2024 to expand opportunities for attracting foreign direct investment, NebitGas reports.
Organisers: energy state concerns with the support of the British company GaffneyCline.
The programme is dedicated to discussing the diversification of the country's energy routes, the development of the chemical industry, the large Galkynysh gas field and the Caspian shelf, and the transition of the local economy to green energy.
Turkmenistan is the largest player in the Asian oil and gas market, with hydrocarbon resources of more than 71bn tonnes of oil equivalent, which is more than 20bn tonnes of oil and more than 50tn cubic metres of natural gas.
Experts told Daryo that the country has adopted national laws "On hydrocarbon resources", "On currency regulation" and "On foreign investment".
Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world in terms of proven natural gas reserves after Russia, Iran and Qatar. China is currently the largest buyer of Turkmen gas. It also supplies Azerbaijan (via Iran), Russia and Uzbekistan.
