In November, Uzbekistan increased its natural gas exports to China by a significant 30%, reaching $54.58 mn, marking two consecutive months of growth. The year-to-date total from January to November stood at $509.03 mn, a noteworthy 50% increase compared to 2022, follows from data from the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China.
This rise in gas exports aligns with Uzbekistan's shift from being a gas importer to an emerging exporter. Despite these strides, Uzbekistan's contributions are overshadowed by regional counterparts. Turkmenistan leads in gas supplies to China, totaling $8.82 bn, followed by Russia at $5.88 bn. Myanmar and Kazakhstan also feature prominently in the rankings.
Uzbekistan's energy landscape has seen transformations, with increased fuel supplies from Turkmenistan and participation in the Central Asia-Center pipeline system. However, despite growing gas export revenues, they still fall short of covering import costs.
Earlier Daryo reported that in October, Uzbekistan experienced a marginal increase in its gas exports to China, reaching $42.24 mn, marking a 1.5% uptick from September, according to the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China. However, this increment remains substantially lower than the levels witnessed in the summer, with Kazakhstan surpassing Uzbekistan by more than threefold at $131.3 mn.
