Uzbekistan has experienced a substantial increase in electricity production, coupled with strategic measures to address the demand for natural gas, recent report from the Statistics Agency showed.
The report discloses that the country generated 69.7 bn kWh of electricity in the first eleven months of this year, showcasing an impressive growth of 3 bn kWh compared to the same period in 2022.
Notably, the total electricity production in Uzbekistan for the entire year of 2022 stood at 74.3 bn kWh, while 2021 recorded a figure of 72 bn kWh. This consistent upward trajectory in electricity output signifies the nation's proactive approach to advancing its energy capabilities.
Concurrently, the report indicates a decrease in the volume of gas production, which amounted to 42.7 bn cubic meters for the first eleven months of the current year. This marks a decrease of 4.6 bn cubic meters compared to the same period in 2022, highlighting a pivotal adjustment in the country's energy mix.
In 2022, the total natural gas production reached 51.7 bn cubic meters, with 53.8 bn cubic meters recorded in 2021. The decline in gas production for the current year prompts a closer examination of the factors influencing this trend.
He further addressed the anticipated demand for natural gas during the autumn-winter period, projected to be 28 bn cubic meters, an increase of 2.5 bn cubic meters from 2022.
"To cover this demand, 16.2 bn cubic meters of natural gas will be produced by Uzbekneftgaz, and 10 bn cubic meters by foreign and joint ventures. We will also import additional gas from neighboring countries and the north," he added.
Earlier Daryo reported that in the initial ten months of this year, Uzbekistan observed a reduction in natural gas production, with a reported decline of 4.1 bn cubic meters compared to the same period in the prior year, according to data from the national agency. The total gas extraction volume during this timeframe stood at 38.9 bn cubic meters, a decrease from the 43 bn cubic meters recorded in the corresponding period of 2022.
