President Sadyr Japarov of the Kyrgyz Republic embarked on a working trip to the Naryn region, where he officially inaugurated the revamped "Torugart 2" checkpoint situated on the Kyrgyz-Chinese state border, president’s press service reported.
The checkpoint, colloquially known as "Torugart-1" and "Torugart-2," was initially constructed in 1993, with the latter receiving upgrades from 2010 to 2018 through collaborative efforts with China. During the inspection, President Japarov was briefed on the dated infrastructure of the checkpoint, prompting the decision for comprehensive reconstruction.
The existing checkpoint faced challenges, with an abrupt entrance, inconveniently located facilities, and a severe lack of parking spaces. The technical equipment was outdated, causing inefficiencies, as the current inspection complex's capacity was limited to 20-25 cars per hour, whereas the demanding conditions at Torugart allowed for the examination of only 15 cars per hour. Despite its design capacity of 150 vehicles per day, over 300 cars pass through the checkpoint daily.
To address these issues, the Torugart-2 complex underwent significant renovations. The administrative building was reconstructed, and six traffic lanes were added. Covered, insulated hangars were installed to facilitate customs control for six vehicles simultaneously. Simultaneously, efforts were made to demolish dilapidated structures, create additional parking spaces, and optimize vehicle traffic within the checkpoint's territory, ultimately increasing its throughput.
The dormitory for border guards was also subject to reconstruction, aligning with President Japarov's vision of enhancing facilities for the security personnel stationed at the checkpoint.
Expressing his views on the improved infrastructure, President Japarov emphasized the importance of adhering to necessary standards and creating optimal conditions for vehicles crossing the border. He proposed extending the checkpoint's operational hours to a 24/7 schedule starting in the upcoming spring, a move aimed at facilitating smoother cross-border movements.
Furthermore, the President instructed authorities to take all requisite measures to ensure the seamless functioning of automated customs systems, underlining the importance of technology in enhancing the efficiency of border control.
President Japarov concluded his visit by inspecting the reconstructed dormitory building for border guards, underscoring the government's commitment to providing improved living conditions for those safeguarding the nation's borders.
