Kyrgyzstan's state-owned enterprise, Kyrgyzkomir, is gearing up to start coal exports to China in 2024, according to reports from 24.kg and confirmation from Chairman Oqilbek Japarov.
Kyrgyzkomir will export coal from four mines - Aq-Uloq, Urmezon, Kara-Keche, and Besh-Burkan - showcasing the country's abundant natural resources.
As part of a broader development plan, a coal enrichment plant is slated for construction in the Norin region by 2025. This investment aims to enhance coal processing capabilities, ensuring higher quality and meeting international standards. In 2024, the government targets the production of 30,000 tons of bitumen, diversifying its export portfolio.
Chairman Japarov announced the completion of the Kok-Art tunnel on the North-South road, improving regional connectivity. Additionally, 450 kilometers of roads are set to be asphalted in 2024, signaling a commitment to modernizing transportation infrastructure.
The Cabinet of Ministers is expanding railway networks, with an additional 20 kilometers added to the Balikchi-Kochkor railway, set for completion in 2026.
Earlier Daryo reported that based on information provided by the National Statistical Committee, Kyrgyzstan has experienced a notable decline in coal imports, almost cutting the figures in half. Between January and September 2023, the country imported 469,500 tons of coal, a sharp decrease compared to the 821,500 tons imported in the corresponding period the preceding year. This encompasses 459,400 tons of solid fuel and 10,100 tons of brown coal.
