Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriev has affirmed that the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is still in progress. His statement comes in response to reports in September suggesting that the project had been halted due to financial disputes. Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Bakyt Torobaev had refuted these claims shortly after.
Choriev emphasized that this project, valued at $5bn, cannot be executed as a public-private partnership (PPP) and is deemed a strategic initiative. Instead, a consortium involving various countries may be considered, given the involvement of three key stakeholders. Choriev mentioned that other nations might express interest in contributing funds.
Uzbekistan is set to invest its own resources in the railway's construction, viewing it as an alternative corridor that can help navigate crises and foster economic growth.
Previously, Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Transport and Communications, Tilek Tekebaev, had suggested the railway could be developed through a PPP or by securing loans and credits.
