In a recent meeting with deputies, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Akylbek Zhaparov revealed plans to initiate the construction of the Kyrgyz section of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project by early 2024. Zhaparov highlighted the near completion of the technical and economic groundwork for the project, which comes with an estimated cost of $6bn.
"We are actively exploring financing options. Construction has already commenced on the Chinese side, and in collaboration with Uzbekistan, we are finalizing financing discussions for the stretch from Kazarman to Jalalabad. If we conclude these negotiations by the end of winter and into spring, we aim to commence railway construction next year," stated Zhaparov.
The Prime Minister underscored the pivotal role of exports in Kyrgyzstan's future economic growth. He expressed a commitment to transforming Kyrgyzstan into a central hub for Eurasian trade and a regional logistics center for the collection, storage, sorting, and shipment of export goods to third countries.
Earlier, Daryo reported that at the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit held in Tashkent, Kyrgyzstan's President Sadyr Japarov revealed that the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project is poised to reshape the landscape of cargo transportation between Asia and Europe.
