In the wake of the devastating earthquakes in China’s Gansu province, the Taliban has extended its sympathies to the victims. The earthquakes, which occurred recently, resulted in the tragic loss of at least 127 lives and left approximately 200 individuals injured.
Charge d’Affaires Seyyed Muhiddin Sadat, representing the Taliban, managed to visit Gansu. During his visit, he also met with Afghans detained in the Lanzhou prison. This gesture underscores the Taliban’s efforts to maintain diplomatic relations and show solidarity in times of crisis.
Abdul-Qahar Balkhi, the Foreign Ministry spokesman for the Taliban, expressed the movement’s condolences to the families of the earthquake victims, as well as to the people and government of China. He extended wishes for a swift recovery to those injured in the disaster.
These expressions of sympathy come from an organization that is currently under UN sanctions for terrorist activities. Despite this, the Taliban’s response to the earthquakes in China indicates a desire to engage positively with the international community during times of crisis.
