Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first president of Kazakhstan, held a personal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. This information was confirmed by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President.
Peskov stated, “Yes, he really was in Moscow, he had a meeting. An individual meeting, a completely personal meeting with the president.” This meeting was reported by the “Vzglyad na Vostok” Telegram channel on December 18, indicating that Nazarbayev had arrived in Moscow with plans to meet Putin.
This is not the first time these two politicians have met. Their last meeting took place in Moscow in June 2022, as informed by Nazarbayev’s press service. Before that, according to the Kremlin’s official website, they had met in St. Petersburg at the end of December 2021.
Interestingly, on December 1, Nazarbayev’s autobiography, “My Life. From Dependency to Freedom,” was released. One of the chapters in the book is dedicated to Vladimir Putin. In this chapter, Nazarbayev describes Putin as a “man of words and deeds” who has established order in Russia. He further notes that Putin’s accession to the presidency marked the beginning of a “qualitatively new” period in the relations between the two countries. This meeting between Nazarbayev and Putin underscores the ongoing close ties between Kazakhstan and Russia.
