Naravi has pledged a donation of $6.7 mn to aid the people of Afghanistan, a country grappling with severe socio-economic challenges. This generous contribution comes at a critical time when Afghanistan is facing a humanitarian crisis, with millions of its citizens in dire need of assistance.
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which announced the donation, has earmarked these funds to support the most vulnerable sections of the Afghan population, including those who have been deported from Pakistan. This move underscores Norway’s commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by Afghan refugees and highlights the global responsibility towards this ongoing crisis.
Of the total donation, $3.8 mn will be allocated to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The UNHCR has been working tirelessly in Afghanistan, providing life-saving shelter, food, water, and core relief items to the newly displaced Afghans. This funding will bolster the UNHCR’s efforts to protect the most vulnerable and assist them in their hour of need.
The remaining $2.9 mn will be directed to the World Food Program (WFP). With nearly half of Afghanistan’s population facing severe hunger, the WFP has been on the front lines, providing food and nutrition assistance to millions of Afghans. This contribution will significantly enhance the WFP’s capacity to combat food insecurity in the region.
