Uzbekistan and Turkey presidents boost strategic collaboration at COP28

On the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, engaged in a strategic meeting with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The leaders discussed a range of issues aimed at further enhancing their comprehensive strategic partnership and advancing joint investment projects, the president's press service reported.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to the practical implementation of previously agreed-upon initiatives, highlighting the importance of translating diplomatic agreements into tangible actions on the ground. The leaders addressed the ongoing bilateral agenda, emphasizing the need for collaboration in various sectors, including trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

One of the focal points of the discussion was the upcoming high-level events, with particular attention given to the next meeting of the Uzbekistan-Turkey Strategic Cooperation Council. The council has been instrumental in steering the course of the relationship between the two nations, facilitating dialogue and cooperation at the highest levels of government.

    Historical Background of Uzbekistan-Turkey Relations

Türkiye holds a unique place in the diplomatic history of Uzbekistan, being the first country to officially recognize its independence on December 16, 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on March 4, 1992, setting the stage for a robust partnership that has since flourished.

Over the years, more than 100 bilateral agreements and protocols have been signed, solidifying the legal foundation of the Uzbekistan-Turkey relationship. These agreements have paved the way for numerous high-level visits, reinforcing the strong bonds between the two nations.

President Erdogan's recent visit to Uzbekistan on November 8 for the 16th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization highlighted the commitment of both nations to fostering economic and trade ties within the region. The summit provided a platform for high-level talks, further strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
