In an interview with Daryo, Uzbekistan's Minister of Energy, Jorabek Mirzamahmudov, elucidated the rationale behind exporting natural gas despite domestic demand, highlighting investment projects with foreign partners.
"They are investors who have made huge investments in geological exploration, extraction, gas production and processing. Of course, when contracts are concluded, a certain amount of gas is exported to cover costs. The same gas is now being exported. It was mutually beneficial,"said the minister.
Mirzamahmudov noted the careful selection of exported amounts, highlighting last year's decision to halt winter exports to meet increased domestic demand. Despite facing challenges such as anomalous cold and heightened consumption, the current conditions enable Uzbekistan to maintain a stable energy system.
Only a certain part of the signed contracts is being exported. It should be noted that this is done without harming domestic consumption.
"For example, last year we completely stopped exporting in the winter. Currently, we have not stopped supplying gas to gas stations and industrial facilities. Last year, in the winter, we stopped everything and limited it. Both anomalous cold and increased consumption. Due to the current conditions, we are able to maintain a stable energy system," Jorabek Mirzamahmudov said.
