In a recent visit to the main office of Uzbekneftegaz on November 22, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev conducted a comprehensive assessment of the energy system's preparedness for the upcoming winter. The presidential press service reported that significant efforts and resources had been dedicated to enhancing the energy sector, with an allocation of UZS 14.5 trillion (around $1.2bn) since the beginning of the year.
During discussions with the leadership of the energy sector, it was highlighted that the system had been adequately equipped with all necessary materials and equipment. As part of the power grid modernization program, substantial updates were made, including the modernization of 100 substations, 11,500 transformers, and 34,000 kilometers of power lines. Additionally, power plants with a total capacity of 675 MW were successfully launched.
To ensure a stable energy supply, an agreement was reached for a guaranteed supply of 5bn cubic meters of natural gas. Adequate reserves of natural gas were accumulated in underground storage facilities, ensuring a reliable supply to both the population and industrial enterprises.
Energy Minister Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov provided a detailed report on the preparations for the winter season, encompassing fuel and equipment reserves. He announced that from December 1, the energy sector would transition to round-the-clock operation.
Looking ahead, the energy landscape of Uzbekistan is set to witness further advancements. Plans include the commissioning of 8 solar and wind power plants with a combined capacity of 1.7 GW and a gas turbine with a capacity of 500 MW in the Syrdarya region. Additionally, a new mine with a coal reserve of 900,000 tons is slated to be launched at the Shargunskoye field.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the critical importance of a stable energy supply, urging compliance with payment discipline. He issued instructions to officials and employees of energy companies to intensify efforts in combating illegal connections.
