Taliban has declared its intention to completely block the flow of water from the Kunar River, a vital watercourse running from Afghanistan into Pakistan.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the deputy minister of economic affairs in the Taliban government, asserted that the blockade of the Kunar River's water was a resolute decision that would be implemented "even at the cost of sacrificing ourselves." Baradar emphasized the Taliban government's unwavering determination and outlined various plans for the extensive reconstruction of Afghanistan.
The announcement by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar comes in response to the interim government of Pakistan's recent decision to repatriate Afghan refugees from its territory. The move signals a tit-for-tat response from the Taliban, introducing a new dimension to the ongoing diplomatic strains between the two neighboring nations.
Earlier Daryo reported that Pakistan has officially announced the implementation of an $830 fee for undocumented refugees seeking to depart from the country. The majority of these individuals are Afghans, including hundreds of thousands who fled Afghanistan following the Taliban's resurgence in 2021.
