Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have escalated as Pakistan reportedly deported Afghan immigrants in a move perceived as applying pressure on the interim government of Afghanistan to halt the construction of the Koshtepa Canal. This development was disclosed by Abdul Haq Hammad, an official from the Ministry of Information and Culture of the Taliban.
As per Hammad, the Pakistani government has raised the issue of closing the Koshtepa Canal multiple times during official meetings with Afghanistan. The details of the specific officials making these requests were not disclosed by Hammad.
"They answered that this channel works against us," stated Abdul Haq Hammad, alluding to Afghanistan's response to Pakistan's requests.
Furthermore, the Taliban official highlighted the significance of the Koshtepa Canal for Afghanistan's goal of achieving self-sufficiency. The construction of the canal is viewed by Afghanistan as a means to enhance its self-reliance, potentially reducing its dependence on Pakistan.
Pakistan's concerns reportedly stem from the belief that the Koshtepa Canal could lead Afghanistan to become less reliant on Pakistan, potentially diminishing the need for bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
