Uzbekistan has introduced legal amendments allowing healthy individuals to voluntarily engage in clinical research for pharmaceuticals or medications. The president signed the law on November 22, enacting changes to pertinent legal documents and expanding the scope for the voluntary involvement of healthy participants in clinical trials.
Under the new regulations, the head of the clinical study is mandated to provide a comprehensive explanation to individuals participating in the clinical trial, elucidating the significance of the research methodology and detailing the nature and potential risks associated with the study. Importantly, participants possess the right to decline their involvement at any stage of the research.
When minors or individuals lacking legal competence are enlisted for the research, written consent must be obtained from their parents or other legal representatives prior to the commencement of the study. Furthermore, the law stipulates that a clinical study involving adults should precede any trials conducted on minors.
The legislation is set to take effect from the date of its official announcement, marking a crucial step in fostering transparency and ethical considerations in clinical research within Uzbekistan.
