Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is set to embark on a visit to Azerbaijan from November 23-24, following an invitation from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The primary focus of the visit will be the inaugural summit of the UN Special Program for Central Asian Economies (SPECA) in Baku.
The summit's agenda outlines key priorities, including the expansion of multilateral cooperation within the SPECA framework, the establishment of a Targeted Fund to support regional projects, the adoption of a "road map" for the digitalization of transport corridors, and the promotion of various business initiatives.
The United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) was launched in 1998 to strengthen subregional cooperation in Central Asia and its integration into the world economy.
The countries of SPECA are Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Concurrently with the summit, Baku is hosting several SPECA business events, such as an economic forum and an exhibition showcasing the industrial potential of Central Asian countries. The activities aim to foster economic collaboration and strengthen ties among the participating nations.
