Iran and Turkmenistan have signed agreements on cooperation in the field of electricity worth $340mn and road construction worth $550mn, IRNA (Iran) reports. The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the regular meeting of the intergovernmental commission in Ashgabat.
The Iranian delegation to the negotiations was led by Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash, while the Turkmen side was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.
According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the first agreement was signed between the Turkmenenergo State Corporation and the Iranian companies Tanawir and Sanergy Pishro Export and Energy Promotion. The project involves the construction of an electricity transmission line from the city of Mary (Turkmenistan) to Mashhad (Iran).
The second agreement was signed by the State Agency for Road Construction Management of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran. It covers the construction of the Gumdag-Etrek-Iran border highway.
