The Republic of Uzbekistan is a close neighbour and strategic partner of Turkmenistan. Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said this during a meeting in Ashgabat with Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.
"A special place in the agenda of the multifaceted partnership is given to trade and economic ties," local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
During the meeting, it was noted that bilateral trade turnover shows positive growth dynamics, interaction in fuel and energy, transport and logistics and agricultural sectors is actively expanding.
Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence in the productivity of the current visit of the Uzbek delegation.
Experts told Daryo that at this stage, the two countries, which share a 1,700km border, are implementing a project to create a trade zone that will cover the adjacent territory of Turkmenistan's Dashoguz Region and Uzbekistan's Khorezm Region.
Turkmenistan has previously offered to provide cargo from Uzbekistan access to the international Caspian port of Turkmenbashi to reach markets in the Caucasus, Europe, Russia and Iran.
As well as buying Turkmen energy, Uzbekistan is an important transit country. Two major gas pipelines pass through its territory, with Turkmenistan exporting natural gas to China and the CIS.
